Hourly Wind Speed Calibration
Calibrate an hourly wind-speed series to a trusted long-term mean reference
Installed
Both mean wind speeds below must refer to this same height.
Source / hourly series
Used to derive K. For GWA, use an ERA5 period matching the GWA reference period (2008–2017).
This is the newer/longer hourly series that will continue to hub-height and turbine calculations.
Used only when Manual mean only is selected above. If a stored ERA5 Job is selected, its calculated mean is used automatically and this field is disabled.
Reference / selected trusted source
Current version: this selection records the reference provenance. Wind Prospecting / GWA values are still entered manually below because HybridAEP does not yet fetch a numeric reference value from those services.
This is the target mean used to scale the hourly series. Example: ERA5 5.861 → reference 6.800 gives K≈1.160, so every hourly U/V component and wind speed is increased by about 16.0%.

Calculation logic / How this works

Derive a wind-speed bias factor on a reference-compatible period, then apply that same factor to the newer/longer ERA5 hourly series.

  1. Select a calibration-period ERA5 dataset and a trusted reference mean wind speed at the same height.
  2. Calculate K = reference mean / ERA5 mean over the calibration period.
  3. Select the application ERA5 dataset, normally the newer 20-year series.
  4. Multiply every hourly U and V wind component by K, preserving direction, chronology and interannual variability.
  5. Save the complete calibrated hourly series as a reusable CSV.gz for long-term and turbine calculations.
For an old GWA/Wind Prospecting reference, derive K on the overlapping/reference-compatible period rather than forcing the entire newer 20-year record to the old mean.
