Report comparison / gap analysis: GEO-NET vs Focus / IRUN vs HybridAEP
Living document
Target report: Advanced / Feasibility Wind Resource & Energy Yield Assessment. The title is a working scope label, not a claim that every current calculation is already bankable. Each result should state its actual inputs, method, validation status and limitations.
Target calculation / reporting chain
Project → Site → Wind data → Long-term adjustment → Turbine / Gross AEP → Layout / Siting → Wind Flow / Terrain → optional TopFarm2 refinement → PyWake final wakes → FLORIS cross-check → Losses / Uncertainty → Net P50/P75/P90/P95 → Sensitivities
Core reporting rule: keep Reference Gross AEP, Terrain-adjusted Gross AEP, AEP after wakes, technical/operational losses and Net P50 as separate checkpoints to avoid double-counting losses.
Report comparison and product roadmap Update this table as HybridAEP capabilities are validated
Section / result GEO-NET — supplied preliminary report Focus / IRUN — supplied report HybridAEP — current / planned
Executive Summary Short covering letter / preliminary-result summary. Project and result summary tables. Planned Single summary of configuration, wind resource, AEP chain, losses, P-values and key limitations.
Project / site description Maps for two layout variants. Detailed site description, maps and photographs. Partial Calculation site and layout exist; formal project/site passport is planned.
Wind-data source / period Long-term-corrected measurements are mentioned; detailed procedure is not shown in the supplied PDF. Mast / Vortex LES / long-term data are described. Implemented ERA5 multi-year hourly data and calibrated-resource lineage are recorded. Formal source/period/height passport will be expanded in reports.
Measurement QA / QC Not disclosed in the supplied preliminary report. Coverage and a 75° direction correction are described. Planned To be added when mast/LiDAR measurements are ingested: gaps, filtering, sensor/mast effects and calibration history.
Long-term adjustment / MCP Long-term correction is mentioned; diagnostics are not disclosed. Method is described and R² is reported. Partial Current calibrated ERA5 workflow and long-term statistics are implemented; it is not labelled measurement-based MCP. WindKit/brightwind are future options when site measurements exist.
Vertical extrapolation Method details are not shown. Shear exponent / vertical profile and hub-height wind are reported. Implemented Explicit power-law hub-height conversion with automatic ERA5 10/100 m alpha, local two-point option and manual sensitivity alpha.
Air density Reported per WTG. Methodology and values are included. Partial Turbine presets retain reference air density; explicit site-density correction and report treatment remain to be completed.
Elevation / DEM source FITNAH 3D is identified as the terrain-flow method; the exact elevation-data source is not separated in the supplied summary. Topography / roughness are documented for WAsP CFD. Implemented Copernicus GLO-30 via OpenTopography, uploaded GeoTIFF and synthetic flat DEM are supported. Dataset provenance is being standardized.
Surface roughness / land cover Not separated from the terrain-flow description in the supplied preliminary report. Topography and roughness are documented for the WAsP CFD workflow. Planned Add a roughness layer independent of DEM: land-cover source, z0 conversion table, optional displacement height and sector/local provenance. ESA WorldCover / CORINE are candidate free sources.
Wind-climate representation The supplied preliminary report does not expose the complete internal representation. Sector/statistical wind-climate treatment is used in the consultant workflow. Partial Primary engine remains chronological hourly time series. Add parallel sector-wise wind rose / Weibull diagnostics so statistical and hourly representations are explicit and comparable.
Atmospheric profile: shear / veer / stability Not fully disclosed in the supplied preliminary report. Vertical profile / shear treatment is described. Partial Power-law shear is implemented. Directional veer and atmospheric-stability treatment are future extensions with explicit uncertainty when not available.
Ambient turbulence / TI Not fully exposed in the supplied preliminary report. Turbulence/site-flow assumptions are part of the consultant methodology. Partial PyWake currently uses an explicit ambient TI assumption. Add TI provenance, directional TI handling, report output and later measurement-based TI when mast/LiDAR data exist.
Background terrain-flow field before wakes FITNAH 3D. WAsP CFD / speed-up. Validation pending Wind Flow / Terrain stage exists. Bypass is operational; WindNinja directional speed-up/turning is the next free solver after flat-DEM validation.
Layout / WTG coordinates Two variants are shown. Map and coordinates are provided. Implemented Dedicated Layout / Siting stage is implemented before terrain flow: manual/uploaded coordinates or generated layouts, wind-rose / energy-rose orientation, fast PyWake wake-AEP screening, immutable layout export and terrain target envelope.
Turbine definition / Power & Ct Models and source-document references are provided. Characteristics and curve graphics are provided; the supplied report contains some inconsistencies. Implemented Stored power/Ct curves and turbine metadata are used by the calculation. Report provenance/revision controls will be expanded.
Wake model windPRO is named; the exact wake model is not disclosed in the supplied PDF. N. O. Jensen. Implemented PyWake hourly wake calculation is implemented (Niayifar, Bastankhah Gaussian, NOJ/Jensen). FLORIS is planned as an independent wake cross-check.
Wake-model configuration passport Not fully disclosed in the supplied preliminary report. Wake-model settings are partially documented. Partial Standardize deficit model, superposition, rotor averaging, wake-expansion formulation, ambient TI, turbulence model and deflection settings in every run/export.
Flow-model validation / benchmark cases Consultant model validation is outside the scope of the supplied preliminary report. Consultant methodology cites its selected flow model; benchmark detail is not the focus of the supplied report. Validation pending Validation chain: Bypass → WindNinja COM flat DEM → WindNinja COM real terrain → NinjaFOAM/OpenFOAM RANS cross-check → external/GWA relative cross-check. Add published benchmark cases where practical.
Per-WTG results Wind speed, density, park efficiency, AEP after wakes and net values. Wind speed, density, gross, after-wake AEP and sensitivities. Partial PyWake stores turbine-level wake AEP/loss and effective wind. A unified report table is planned.
Reference Gross AEP Not presented as a clearly separate headline total in the supplied preliminary report. Presented. Implemented Turbine Definition & Gross AEP calculates the transparent pre-wake baseline from the calibrated hourly series and power curve.
Terrain-adjusted Gross AEP Implicit in the consultant flow/AEP chain. Implicit in the WAsP CFD resource/AEP chain. Validation pending Equals Reference Gross AEP in Bypass. Will become a separate checkpoint when validated WindNinja transfer fields are enabled.
AEP after wakes / wake losses Presented. Presented. Implemented Full-hourly PyWake AEP, wake loss %, per-WTG loss and directional/WS summaries are implemented.
Other technical / operational losses Availability, electrical, environmental and other categories are listed. Availability, electrical and performance losses; some constraints are described. Planned Dedicated Losses & Uncertainty module is planned with transparent assumptions and sources for each loss category.
Net AEP / Net P50 Presented. Presented, although totals differ between tables in the supplied report. Planned Will enforce one auditable chain: Reference Gross → Terrain-adjusted Gross → After wakes → Technical losses → Net P50.
P75 / P90 / P95 P50/P75/P90 are presented. P50/P75/P84/P90/P95 are presented. Planned Will be derived from an explicit uncertainty budget; SAM/PySAM will be used only as an external benchmark, not the primary engine.
P-value horizon Not clearly separated in the supplied preliminary report. 1 / 5 / 10 / 20-year horizons are shown. Planned Will report at least 1-year and multi-year-average P-values separately, rather than a horizon-free P90.
Capacity factor Not shown in the supplied preliminary report. Presented. Partial Gross and wake-affected CF are already calculated; final report will label Gross/Net and probability basis explicitly.
Hourly generation Not included in the supplied PDF. Not included in the supplied PDF. Implemented Chronological hourly calculation chain is preserved; downstream exports will state timestamps/time zone and whether the year is historical/representative.
Monthly generation Not included in the supplied PDF. Monthly wind is shown, not monthly generation. Planned Monthly energy table/plot will be generated from the hourly series.
Wind rose Not shown in the supplied preliminary report. Presented. Planned Frequency wind rose and, where useful, energy rose are planned in the report layer.
Wake maps No project-specific wake map in the supplied PDF. General wake scheme / speed-up mapping, not a full project wake map. Partial PyWake result mapping exists; report-grade maps for selected WS/WD with explicit conditions are planned.
Uncertainty budget Only overall uncertainty is shown. Component breakdown is provided. Planned Will show components, assumptions/distributions, dependencies/correlation and combined uncertainty.
Resource-source comparison No full comparison in the supplied report. No full comparison in the supplied report. Planned ERA5 / Wind Prospecting / GWA comparisons will be shown only on a comparable basis; they will not automatically be called independent validation.
Wake-model comparison Not shown. Not shown. Planned PyWake ↔ FLORIS cross-check under identical inflow, turbine and layout assumptions.
Sensitivity: turbine / HH / layout GE and Nordex / different layouts are compared. Other configurations are mentioned; some tables are incomplete in the supplied PDF. Partial Configuration and orientation experiments exist; systematic sensitivity tables are planned.
Reproducibility / calculation passport Report revision and source-document references. Methodology, appendices and references. Partial Software versions and model parameters are stored in results; a full run passport and single-source-of-truth result chain are planned.
IEC site suitability Not evaluated in the supplied preliminary report comparison. Not evaluated in the supplied report comparison. Future extension Future WindPRO-like extension: effective TI, extreme wind, shear and turbine-class/site-suitability checks. Keep separate from the core EYA until the energy chain is complete.
Obstacles / shelter Not evaluated in the supplied preliminary report comparison. Not evaluated in the supplied report comparison. Future extension Future local-flow extension for buildings, tree belts and other obstacles where they materially affect a turbine or measurement point.
Blockage / induction Not evaluated in the supplied preliminary report comparison. Not evaluated in the supplied report comparison. Future extension Future farm-flow extension, explicitly separated from conventional downstream wake deficits.
Noise / shadow / visual Outside the supplied preliminary energy-yield report comparison. Outside the supplied energy-yield report comparison. Future extension Optional WindPRO-like scope after the EYA product is mature: turbine-noise propagation, shadow flicker and visual/photomontage outputs.
Methodology / report rules carried into HybridAEP
  • DEM source, wake-distance geometry and terrain-induced background-flow modification are documented separately.
  • A DEM by itself does not justify the statement that terrain speed-up / turning has been modelled.
  • P-values always state the horizon (for example 1-year versus multi-year average).
  • 8760 / 8784 outputs identify whether the series is a specific historical year, representative real year or synthetic series.
  • Required data attribution is preserved; optional software/library detail may be shown in an expanded methodology section.
  • A complete internal calculation passport is retained even when a shorter client-facing report is produced.
