Long-term Wind Resource
Multi-year wind statistics and representative real-year selection
Installed
This step analyzes the complete calibrated multi-year hourly series. It does not average corresponding hours across years. It selects one real historical calendar year as the Representative Wind Year while retaining all years for long-term statistics.
The full calibrated CSV.gz stays on the VPS. This calculation creates long-term statistics and a reusable 8760/8784-hour representative real-year dataset.
Representative-year score: 40% monthly seasonality + 35% wind-speed distribution + 15% wind-direction distribution + 10% annual mean. Lowest score wins. This is a transparent wind-specific method, not ISO TMY.
Important: annual wind-speed percentiles shown in the result are percentiles of yearly mean wind speed. They are not P50/P90 energy yield. Energy-yield percentiles are calculated later in Turbine & AEP.

Representative year is one real historical calendar year. No hour-by-hour averaging across years is used. Wind-speed percentiles above are not P50/P90 energy yield; AEP percentiles are calculated after the turbine power curve is applied.

Every completed calculation exports an XLSX workbook whose first worksheet is Cover. The Cover is written in English and documents purpose, inputs, method, outputs, limitations and source/documentation links.

Calculation logic / How this works

Use all complete calibrated years for long-term wind statistics and separately select one real historical year for 8760/8784-hour downstream studies.

  1. Retain every complete real calendar year; do not average corresponding hours across different years.
  2. Calculate long-term mean/median/std, monthly climatology, annual means, wind-speed distribution, wind-direction distribution and interannual variability.
  3. Score every historical year against the long-term resource.
  4. Current score weights: 40% monthly seasonality, 35% wind-speed distribution, 15% wind-direction distribution and 10% annual-mean difference.
  5. Select the real historical year with the lowest score and save its original chronological 8760/8784-hour sequence.
Representative Wind Year is a transparent wind-specific heuristic, not an ISO TMY. AEP P50/P90 is calculated later after hub-height conversion, power curves and losses.
